You know your teeth aren’t straight. You’ve known it for a long time, but now that you’ve been working for a few years, you’ve become more self-conscious about it.
You don’t really know why, but it just seems more noticeable now. The good news is you are working, and since you have a job, you have a way to do something about it.
At Legacy Smiles in Billings, MT, our dentist offers two services that could help you improve your opinion of your smile.
Veneers can provide a faster result while Invisalign will actually change the position of your teeth. Keep reading to understand the differences and benefits of each approach.
Why Do You Want To Fix Your Smile?
This is the big question that only you can answer for yourself.
If you are feeling self-conscious about your smile, then it can affect you in a lot of ways.
You may feel hesitant to speak up at work. You may less comfortable in social situations. You may even start to shy away from meeting new people.
Your teeth — or rather, your feelings about your teeth — should not prevent you from enjoying your life.
Improving your smile may be the step you need to feel more relaxed, whether you are meeting a potential customer or getting ready for a night out with your friends.
But you also may want to consider the health benefits of straightening your teeth. If you have struggled with gum disease or you’ve had fillings because of cavities, the positioning of your teeth could be a factor.
Teeth that are misaligned can be more difficult to brush and floss, which can increase your risk of plaque and tartar buildup. Straight teeth can be cleaned more effectively with your daily oral hygiene.
Why You Might Want Veneers
If you are thinking about porcelain veneers, then you should ask how soon you would like you teeth fixed.
If you want your teeth to look nice for a special event this summer, like a wedding or graduation, then veneers are your best bet to get fast results.
Veneers can do for your teeth what siding can do for a house. When you put siding on your house or you replace siding that’s already there, you aren’t changing the entire house, just the exterior.
In a similar way, you can completely change the appearance of your smile by adding veneers.
To get veneers, you will need to make multiple visits to our office. During the first visit, we will examine your teeth and discuss what you would like to change.
If you decide that veneers are for you, we can plan how you would like your smile to look. We will remove a layer of enamel from the front of your teeth to make room for your veneers. After this minor alteration, we will make an impression of your teeth, which is sent to the laboratory that will make your veneers.
When the veneers are ready a few weeks later, you’ll come back and we will bond them to your teeth. Once they are in place, you will see an instant change in your smile. Your teeth will look straight, parallel to one another, and evenly spaced.
In other words, you can have a perfect smile.
Why You Might Want Invisalign
You may prefer Invisalign if you are concerned about more than just the cosmetic benefits of improving your smile.
Invisalign will take longer to make the changes you want (compared to veneers). Many patients can complete their Invisalign treatment in about 12 months, which is still less than the two years or more it can take with metal braces.
However, Invisalign aligners actually move your teeth instead of just hiding them. We start by making an impression of your teeth. This is used to design a series of clear, plastic aligners that you will wear during your treatment.
You will wear each aligner for about two weeks. Each time you switch aligners, your teeth will be a little closer to being straight.
And unlike with braces, you can take your aligners off for up to two hours each day. This means you can continue eating the foods that you want to eat, and you don’t have to change your normal brushing and flossing routine.
At the end of your Invisalign treatment, your smile will look better than it ever has, and you may find it becomes easier to maintain your oral health.
