Our Billings, MT dentist office often do full mouth reconstructions for patients who have lost or damaged many of their teeth and want to restore their smiles to their former functionality and beauty. Full-mouth reconstruction is really the pinnacle of applying everything we ever learned or know about dentistry. We are literally taking, it's almost like a blank slate here, and we are completely re-engineering, and redesigning, and rebuilding a person's mouth the way Mother Nature intended it to be. Quite often, we're not just restoring it the way Mother Nature made their mouth. We're actually restoring it in such a fashion that we're improving upon what they originally had genetically. We're literally lining up, taking into account the joint, the teeth, the jaws, the cosmetics of it, how it all designs and fits and functions. All this has to come together to fit, function for a lifetime.

We literally make molds and models of your mouth, and we mount it up on this thing called an articulator that's designed to simulate your head and your joint, and how things all come together. We redesign, we rebuild your entire mouth. We do it in wax first. Then I'm going to take that whole plan, and that whole model, we're going to take it back to your mouth, and then we're going to literally go through the recreation process and make that a part of your mouth. It's the very best that we've got to offer our patients in dentistry. It's amazing what we can do.

The first step of the full mouth reconstruction process is to be examined by our Billings, MT dentist. Dr. Stuart will thoroughly examine your mouth and take a close look at the areas that will require the most care. He will then discuss the problems he is seeing and the treatments he recommends. This is the perfect time for you to ask any questions you have and discuss restorative options. During the exam, we’ll use advanced technology like cone beam CT (3D imaging) to diagnosis any oral problems and plan out any necessary treatment. The 3D images allow us to see jawbone density, which aids us in placing dental implants.

The next step of the full mouth reconstruction process is to choose your treatment and create a plan of action. Dr. Stuart may suggest a root canal or extraction of any teeth that are causing you pain and problems. You will then focus on what method you will use to restore your mouth.

Typically, full mouth reconstructions will consist of placing implants or implant-retained dentures, but may also include other restorations like bridges and crowns. Below we will talk about how some of these procedures work and how they can help you get back to living life to the fullest.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are created to replace your teeth in the most natural-feeling, permanent way possible. The implant is first placed into your gum and allowed to fuse with your jaw bone to create a foundation for the replacement tooth or crown. We offer many different types of implants including mini implants, All-on-4, All-on-6, and immediate load implants. Implants will restore almost 100 percent of your natural chewing ability and are designed to look, feel, and act just like natural teeth.

Implant-Retained Dentures

Implant-retained dentures work like traditional dentures in that they replace all of your natural teeth. However, implants give these dentures the extra support and security they need to be more comfortable and realistic. Once they are placed, they become a permanent part of your mouth and will allow you to chew and function like normal.

The last step to the reconstruction process is to undergo the procedures and return to your normal life. We create all of our prostheses to look as natural as possible with plenty of realistic detail. With dental implants or implant-retained dentures, you can look and feel your best – and get back to eating whatever you want, laughing and sneezing without worry, and being confident about your appearance.
