Know The Three C’s Of Invisalign

Close your eyes and imagine the prettiest smile you’ve ever seen.

Do you remember when you saw that smile? How did that make you feel?

A great smile has a way of doing that. It’s contagious … in a good way.

When we see someone who has an easy, confident smile, it makes the people around him or her happier, too.

What makes a great smile? Great teeth, and great teeth are straight.

If you have a crooked smile, teeth that are crowded together, or a gap in your smile, you may have doubts about how good your smile really is. You can fix those issues with Invisalign.

And you can find Invisalign at the Legacy Smiles dentist office in Billings, MT.

Invisalign Or Braces?

If you want a straighter smile, Invisalign and traditional braces can help. Now, Invisalign can’t fix every single problem, but it can fix many of the same issues that can be treated with braces.

The difference between braces and Invisalign can be summed up with 3 C’s.

#1. Comfort

Traditional braces, particularly metal braces, can be uncomfortable. Braces use brackets and wires (and sometimes small rubber bands) to push and pull your teeth in the right direction.

To keep things moving, you have to return to the dentist or orthodontist for regular adjustments. And you will feel the difference with each adjustment.

All that is assuming that everything works correctly. Occasionally, a wire will come loose for some unfortunate person who is wearing braces. This wire can poke into your cheek, lips or gums. And yes, this can hurt.

Invisalign uses clear, plastic aligners instead of wires and brackets. The aligners work by gently pushing your teeth into a straighter position. The plastic is smooth, which means no scratchy edges. It also means no wires to come loose and poke you.

#2. Convenience

We’ve already mentioned that traditional braces require frequent visits to the dentist or orthodontist. That can make it less convenient from a scheduling standpoint.

And you already know that if you have braces you will have them on 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for about two years (and possibly longer).

With braces, you also will need to quit eating certain foods like caramel, gooey chocolate bars, chunky peanut butter, chewy and hard candies, nuts, and popcorn.

With Invisalign, you need to wear your aligners for at least 22 hours a day to receive the maximum benefit. Invisalign uses a series of plastic aligners to move your teeth.

Every two weeks or so, you will get rid of your old aligner and replace it with a new one. You may need to visit the dentist from time to time to check on your progress, but “adjustments” mean taking out one mouthpiece and putting in a new one.

On the flip side, you can take off your Invisalign aligners for up to two hours per day. That’s pretty nice when you are sitting down to eat. It also means that you don’t have to give up any of your favorite foods.

Plus, this makes it easy to brush and floss your teeth. With braces, you may have to get special tools to clean between your teeth, and you will have to be extra careful to make sure no food gets caught in your wires.

#3. Clarity

When you are wearing braces, everyone knows. You can’t hide them. They are on your teeth, and they will stay there until your treatment is finished.

Even if you get ceramic or tooth-colored brackets, you will still have a wire connecting those brackets together. After all, the wire is an essential part of how your braces work.

We’ve already mentioned that Invisalign uses clear, plastic aligners. Because they are transparent, most people will never notice that you are wearing them.

If you are a working professional, this could be huge advantage over braces. Adult orthodontics have become more common, but a clear aligner that is barely noticeable would probably make orthodontic services easier to handle.

It’s not hard to imagine how braces could distract a customer or client when you want them paying attention to what you are trying to say. With Invisalign, your orthodontic treatment won’t interfere with doing your job.

“C” The Difference

Invisalign is a great option for teenagers and adults. It’s effective, and we have explained how the clear, plastic aligners are more comfortable and more convenient than braces can be.
