Hello and welcome to another September edition of the Legacy Smiles blog!
We all know how much fun Fall can be in the great state of Montana. But you may not feel much like smiling while you are struggling to adjust to the life-changes (not the good kind) that tooth loss will inevitably bring about.
That said, what we want you to take away from today’s post is the knowledge that a dental implant can improve your fate by restoring your health, your confidence, and, obviously, your smile!
So that you will better understand the process, we’re going to discuss dental implants, how they work, and the ways in which they can replicate the look, feel, and function of your own teeth.
Read on, and then be sure to get in touch with our Billings team to schedule your consultation with Dr. Stuart.
The Scoop On Dental Implants
Dental implants are made of of a metal called titanium. Titanium is used because it bonds to your jawbone in a process called osseointegration. Try saying that real fast.
Implants are designed to mimic the function that a natural tooth root would perform in your mouth.
Implants look somewhat like a little screw on account of the way they are threaded. This is what allows us to attach a wide array of caps, abutments, and oral appliances to them.
The Placement Process
The procedure is easy, though it is technically a surgery. To put it simply, the implants are just screwed into your jaw, where they are allowed to heal and bond to the bone.
With traditional implants, the implant is allowed to fuse with the bone for several months before having a restoration attached. Other types of implants, such as mini implants, are immediate load implants, meaning that you do not have to wait for the healing process to get your replacement tooth.
After the implant is healed, or immediately if you have selected an immediate load type, a crown is constructed and secured onto the implant to mimic your natural tooth. These replacement teeth become a permanent part of your mouth and look and feel just like your natural teeth.
As we alluded to earlier, many different types of dental implants are available here. You can choose from traditional dental implants, mini dental implants (which are smaller in diameter and easier to place), All-on-4 (a full arch of teeth on just four implants), All-on-6, implant-retained dentures, implant-supported dentures, and the Same Day Smile option.
Dr. Stuart will assess your situation and set you up with whichever type makes the most sense for you!
These aren’t your grandma’s false teeth. Implants are far better than the options that existed in earlier eras of dentistry. In fact, they are the best replacement option we’ve ever encountered.
Our dental implants are comfortable and functional because they distribute biting force just like natural teeth.
When you are finished with the procedure, you’ll be able to enjoy the foods that make you happy and keep your health on track. Plus, you will get your facial structure and full smile back.
