We are here to tell you that healthy gums make for a happy life. That’s why gum disease that is left undiagnosed or untreated can cause real misery.

Here’s the deal: gum disease emerges as gingivitis, which can create slight discomfort, but isn’t too big of an issue. And in this stage, it can be easily contained and reversed.

Signs And Warnings

What are the telltale signs of gingivitis? Puffy gums, bleeding when brushing, and sensitivity at the gum line are good indicators. But you may not even realize you have it until your dentist points it out.

What is the treatment for gingivitis? In our office this is usually an easy exercise and can even be completed with a routine professional cleaning every 3-6 months.

That said, by the time this condition evolves into periodontal disease, you may start seeing teeth fall out of your mouth, but that won’t be the worst of it.

Advanced gum disease can adversely impact your general health and wellness. Once the bacteria that causes gum disease gets loose in your bloodstream, anything is possible. Gum disease has been correlated to heart and respiratory issues, as well as certain kinds of cancer.

At least you will be in good hands with us on your side, should you ever find yourself faced with gum disease.

Our team has the tools and the training to treat every stage of gum disease. Obviously, treatments will vary according to your individual situation.

Scaling and Root Planing

We will assess your unique needs before any action plan is implemented. Still, scaling and root planing is the initial route for treating standard cases of gum disease.

Sometimes called a deep cleaning, scaling and root planing reach way below your gum line to eradicate any buildup of plaque and tartar on the roots of your teeth.

After all, it is this dangerous bacteria found in plaque that caused the infection and inflammation to begin with. We will need to do away with any that remains.

Rest assured, we will do our best to make this a pleasant and pain-free experience. After we have applied a local anesthetic, will we perform a full cleaning that covers above and below the gum line.

This will help to control the infection and get you back on the good road.

Gum Surgery

If your gum disease has progressed to far, it may create pockets in your gums, where bacteria can settle. When this occurs, your teeth may become loose, and you may be at risk for losing them. At this stage, deep cleaning may not be sufficient on its own to get rid of the bacteria and plaque. Accordingly, we may recommend gum surgery.

Gum surgery may sound frightening, but with sedation, you can relax during your entire procedure. During the surgery, we will carefully lift your gums to remove the tartar and disease in these periodontal pockets. After cleaning them out, we will gently put them back in place so that they will grow back around your teeth.
